The author attempts to reconstruct the phenomenon of “Zurvanism” which is percieved by him as an Iranian religious-philosophical teaching or a circle of ideas based on recognizing the supremace of Time and Destiny and pessimistic anthropological thoughts. The author elaborates the conceptions of European iranists, mostly R.C.Zaehner and H.S.Nyberg. A wide range of issues is examined: methodological problems, zurvanite myths, cosmological and anthropological thoughts, its historical explications and origins.
