Ishimova prepodavala, perevodila s anglijskogo, a takzhe zanimalas′ izdatel′skoj deyatel′nost′yu. S 1841 po 1862 god pisatel′nica izdavala detskij zhurnal «Zvyozdochka». O tvorchestve A.O. Ishimovoj vysoko otzyvalis′ V.A. ZHukovskij, A.S. Pushkin, N.V. Gogol′ i drugie velikie pisateli. Izvestnyj russkij kritik V.G. Belinskij tak ocenival tvorchestvo pisatel′nicy: «Istoriya» gospozhi Ishimovoj — vazhnoe priobretenie dlya russkoj literatury: tak bogato sochinenie eyo drugimi dostoinstvami, mezhdu kotorymi pervoe mesto zanimaet prevoschodnyj rasskaz i prekrasnyj yazyk, oblichayushhie ruku tverduyu, opytnost′ literaturnuyu, osnovatel′noe izuchenie predmeta, neutomimoe trudolyubie».
